7-9 Month Old Milestones Checklist (and Red Flags…)

Ever wondered if your 7 month old, 8 month old or 9 month old baby is reaching their milestones? Or are you worried and looking for red flags in their development? Perhaps you want some activities for your baby to stay busy and to get a moment to breathe? In that case, reading.

7-9 Month Old Baby Milestones Checklist

Wondering what 7-9 month old milestones to care about, and how to reach them? I’m specialised in child development and I’ve gathered a list of the most important milestones at this age. If you want the full list, you can get it here.

✓ CRAWLS WITH EASE: Your little one crawls on all fours and engages both sides of the body to do so, but just one.

USES BOTH SIDES OF THE BODY TO MOVE: When moving in general, we want to see both sides engaged, not only for crawling but eating, standing, touching, grabbing, etc.

✓ CAN BEAR THEIR OWN WEIGHT ON THE LEGS: When standing up, your child’s feet are flat on the ground and can bear their body weight. They might even bounce a bit!

✓ TRANSFERS TOYS FROM ONE HAND TO THE OTHER: We want to see your child being able to pass toys between their two hands.

What are the red flags for a 7 month old baby?

Things to look out for in your 7-9 month old baby (and talk to your pediatrician about) are:

  • One side being dominant, i.e. your baby uses it more than the other side of the body (for example, crawls more with the right side of the body and the left side is kind of lagging behind).
  • Extreme stiffness or very loose body. We want it to be somewhere inbetween.

Does my baby need to learn how to clap before they hit 9 months old?

No. They learn how to clap until they reach 12 months of age.

What are signs of high IQ in babies?

Smart babies want to try, taste, and experience everything. They are very curious little ones. Their eyes move around, they move a lot, and they are responsive to their environment.

Hi! I'm Artemis

I’m an early childhood educator and educational psychologist.

I help you go from “mommy/daddy needs a minute” to “yes, you can play for 5 more minutes”.

In other words, I get your child playing HAPPILY on their own (while also reaching developmental milestones), so you get a moment to yourself to drink coffee, clean, or breathe.

I help you get the peaceful, quiet home you long for, while your child gets more intelligent.
